I was hoping we'd do some pneumatics at this last Florida Haunter's make and take, but alas it didn't happen this time. However our friend "Spyder" (John Nilsen) had his pop-up on display and was kind enough to show us how it's put together. I was expecting a little "psst' and it would pop-up 10-12 inches like most do.
...Wrong!
This thing popped up about 48 inches and the arms came out from it's sides! It's a guaranteed "loss of bladder control" for at least some of our Halloween guests!

Note to self :  "Must find cheap 36" plus air cylinder.... Forget anymore store bought pop-ups this year!"

If you've got plans for this weekend, cancel them. Wizard World is throwing their Ohio Comic con, and it's gonna be one hell of a party. It all kicks off today with a Wizard World Drink and Draw with Tommy Castillo from 9:00 - 11:00. If you don't know who Tommy is, I'd click the link up there and go check him out. In brief, he's a total badass. His twisted work has been circulating the industry for as long as I've been alive. He'll be personally interacting with anyone who shows up to draw and at the end of the night, he'll be picking someone to win a free table at a Wizard World Con down the road. So yeah, Drink and Draw today with Tommy Castillo.




Tomorrow, we've got Michael Golden; Eliza Dushku; CM Punk; Humberto Ramos & Jorge Molina; Patrick Stewart & John DeLancie; Alan Davis; Val Kilmer; Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flannery, and David Della. There will be an adult costume contest. Then, there will be a Masquerade party. All of this, and you'll have the chance to shake hands with the man, Jason, king of Zombies&Toys, as he makes his way through the crowd throwing Zombies&Toys SWAG to anyone sporting a zombie shirt. You know what? If you're sporting a Zombies&Toys shirt, and you get a picture with Jason, you can be entered to win a  free Drew Falchetta "Zombies" print from our zombie toy store. Email the photo to me, Todd, at todd@zombiesandtoys.com with your name and address, and I'll pick a winner on Sunday night. Yeah, that's right. I said it, and I won't be taking it back. If you don't recognize this sexy bastard by now, it's been your loss. He'll be attending the con damn near all day Saturday, so make sure you find him.

Sunday kicks off with Vampire Lore and Other Urban Myths and Legends with Rebecca Housel, A Q&A with Neal Adams, another with Dean Cain, a Kids' Costume Contest, and wraps up with Crazy Coasters W/COSI. Bring the kids, because Sunday is their day.

Get out to Wizard World's Ohio Convention, hit them up on Facebook, do your thing on Twitter, and make sure you shake Jason's hand while you're there if you're into free stuff.

As a zombie fan, I get excited whenever I see a game title with the words "dead" or "undead" in it.  So when I saw this offering from Developer Arkedo Studio and published by Sega, I have to say that I was intrigued. The name alone gives the sense of a high energy game from the start.  For those of you who missed the preview posted a week ago, here is the synopsis for HELL YEAH!:

You are a devil rabbit named Ash, who also happens to be the prince of Hell and feared by all. But one individual has forgotten that. Your archenemy, Fat Rabbit, has posted your secret sex pictures all over the Hellternet and that makes you seriously angry. This sucks! You want him to burn in Hell, and with your hot temper you can make revenge oh so sweet. It's you and your trusty driller (plus some other weapons and customization!) against everyone else. Drill your way to vengeance and explore the huge and varied world of Hell Yeah! Delving into the darkest depths of the underworld, you can ride the driller as a slaughter machine and exterminate those rude and ugly monsters by blasting and tearing them apart on your mission to get Fat Rabbit. Don't feel bad; they all deserve to die! It's you against Hell, after all. It's Hell Yeah!

In my mind, while the protagonist Ash refrains from eating flesh of the living, he is still a zombie because he is undead. So with that out of the way, lets actually get to the game and see how it holds up to this odd back-story.


The first thing that you will notice about HELL YEAH! is that it is a very bright and colorful game. The graphics are crisp and with all the time I have put into it I have yet to find a graphical blemish or any collision detection issues.  Every level from the underwater mazes to the cartoon world where you kill with rainbows has a unique look and feel to it.

The sound in this game is top notch.  I noticed that the music changes depending on the location you are at and honestly I am glad it is. There have been too many games that leave you with one set soundtrack. 

As far as the controls in this game go, I can safely say that I haven't had a game control this tightly in a long time.  You move with the left stick, you can hold the A button to hover and you aim your weapons with the right stick.  The right shoulder button is dual use here as the button to control your drill and fire your weapons.  Even when you are surrounded by enemies you will be able to keep calm with easy weapon changes and unlimited ammo.

Now the big question, is it fun? I think I can safely answer this with a HELL YEAH! The game moves at such a brisk pace that you never grow bored. I also found it very hard to get lost in a level due to the radar at the bottom of the screen.  There are a lot of enemies to kill in very differing ways.  When you do enough damage you get to play a short mini-game to defeat the boss for good. In one instance I was pumping iron and the next I was trying to steal honey from a bee-hive.  There is a lot of oddity in this game, but it makes for a very fun experience.




This game is rated T but I must caution that it does earn it's rating.  There is quite a bit of suggestive humor throughout the game and some language here and there. Overall though this is just one minor complaint with an overall amazing game.  If you like your action fast and your undead rabbits faster, ,then go out and pick up this game today on XBOX Live or Playstation Network.

Zombie Driver HD Coming Soon (Updated Info)

What do you get when you mix zombies, cars and violence? You get Zombie Drivers HD the game from Developer EXOR Studios.  The game is scheduled to be released next week and the developer has given this short synopsis:

"Insane mix of cars, speed, explosions, blood and zombies! Fight through an epic narrative campaign or test yourself in the Slaughter and Blood Race modes. Engage huge bosses, save survivors, drive crazy vehicles such as a bulldozer, fire truck or even a tank and smash everything in your way. Take part in the Blood Race tournament - chase other cars and take them down without mercy on brutal racing tracks. Jump into the Slaughter mode and survive as long as possible on specially crafted arenas."

A trailer for Zombie Driver HD was released on XBox Live today and the countdown to the release of the game has begun. If this game comes even a bit close to the media that has already been released, then we should have a hit on our hands.

With the release date of Call of Duty Black Ops II a little over a month away, the buzz is growing not only for the game itself, but for the improved Zombies mode that is being added on this year.  Treyarch and Activision are promising many changes that will create a different play and feel for the Zombies mode.  Stay tuned to Zombies&Toys, as we will continue to cover this game right up through release, and scroll down to enjoy two of the screen shots from the Zombies mode.

Hotels.com versus Disney.com

Confession: we have NEVER stayed at a Walt Disney World hotel. We used to stay off property (something cheap on 192, usually) when we lived out of town, and now we live here, so why pay for a hotel?


In deciding to finally change that in honor of my wife's October birthday, we're going to stay at something on property so we can drink at Food and Wine festival without driving. We selected Pop Century because it's cheap - we mostly will just sleep there.




We priced out Friday and Saturday in mid-October from Disney.com and came up with $249 total (including all fees and taxes). My resourceful wife then tried hotels.com and discovered they have Pop Century there as well. The same nights, the same rooms: $209.


People ask me ALL THE TIME about discounts at Disney parks and hotels. My standard answer is that Disney doesn't discount. It doesn't need to. I link folks to MouseSavers.com for the available coupons - there are usually several for off-season and midweek. But on weekends you're generally looking at paying rack rate.


So imagine my surprise that there really IS a way to beat rack rate at Disney hotels. I had no idea that they were in hotels.com, and I had no clue that they would be cheaper.


To my (jaded?) mind this is somewhat of a letdown, despite me saving money. It means Disney is less special. Just a tick less special, mind you, but less special all the same. It used to be that Disney was not only unique, they were an industry unto themselves. They didn't have to play by the rules everyone else does.


I guess that's not true anymore.
